The Art of Resistance is an archival project run by Ed Torsney. Whilst Capitalism and colonialism decay and crumble around us, their agent-states lash out desperately starting wars and drawing us all towards a final cataclysmic global conflict. Meanwhile, the masks of propriety and morality worn by the collective West since WWII have been cast off, smashed and stamped into the powdered bone-dust of half a million Ukrainian soldiers and countless Palestinian children torn limb from limb in the most savage displays of barbarism and disregard for human life that the world has ever seen. And with the mask gone, the ghoulish skull-face of FASCISM grins out at the world once more with diabolical intent. Racists and Neo-Nazis are funded and emboldened by their host states. The same foes our grandparents died protecting us from, now walk our streets and throng our corridors of power. These are dark times – we have never seen darker. But every resurgence of fascism sparks a resistance. Good people organise, take to the streets and in our digital age they take to social media to pool their strength and share ideas. And it’s here, on these platforms – Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and the rest – that the war of ideas is fought with words, poems, music, film and ART.
This Website aims to collect all this creative energy into one place.
Every one of us has a responsibility to do whatever we can to achieve equality and social justice for all and the first step in every epic battle against the prevailing evil of our times, is to tear down the veils and dare to SEE the quagmire of systemic injustices that much of humanity is submerged in.
Art has the power to do just that and there’s no shortage of talent out there! Please sign up, submit examples you’ve found or submit your own work. Together we can concentrate all these resources and grow the resistance.
